This jacket is for all the badass creative cuties who wear their (he)art on their sleeve! We see this expressiveness and openness as something to wear with pride — so we’ve literally embroidered a heart on one sleeve, and a paint palette on the other.
They say that life imitates art, and we think that one informs the other in an infinite cycle of inspiration. After all, we put the things we love most in life — our relationships, our passions, our dreams — into our art, and vice versa. And just because we’re sensitive doesn’t mean we’re not tough at the same time (thank u, next)!
This is Bubblesort Zines’ second collaboration jacket, made with artist Alice Lee. The pink tiger character is based on a mural that Alice painted in the Mission District of San Francisco, taking inspiration from a heartbreak (life, love, and art converging!). This phrase spoke to both of us in different ways, and we love that it is so open to interpretation as it touches on themes of love, art, self-growth, and strength.
Alice’s perspective: This phrase spoke to me because it was inspired by my experiences in love and art throughout my 20s so far — being a little wild and experimental, taking risks in making art and breaking hearts (including my own!). Even though sometimes romantic relationships don’t work out (and that’s perfectly okay), I found that the most important one was the one I had with myself and my artwork. I’ve grown and learned about myself from these two great teachers, love and art.
Amy’s perspective: For all of us who were raised/socialized to be people-pleasers, I saw the phrase as permission to prioritize yourself (and your art) and be a little bit selfish, even if you sometimes disappoint other people in the process.
This phrase was originally authored by artist Lauren Hom and the lettering developed on Doodle Therapy.
